Just a few steps from Enge station, on a small hill, you will find a remarkable domed church with a campanile-style tower visible from afar. It is well worth the climb (especially via the generous staircase that rises to the main portal). On one side of the church is a vineyard in the middle of the city of Zurich. On the other side, facing the lake, visitors are rewarded with a wonderful view. Due to its location on the hill, the church is also visible from afar and even catches the eye from the harbor basin.
In view of the growing number of worshippers in the parish of Enge and after a lengthy legal dispute with the owner of the restaurant located on the ground previously, architect Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli, a student of Gottfried Semper, was commissioned to build the church in 1892 and the building, which is in the neo-Renaissance style, was consecrated in 1894.
With its location and imposing architecture, the church is visible from afar and is considered one of the landmarks of District 2, offering an oasis of calm in the middle of the city. The beautiful stained glass windows are also worth a visit.
Due to its excellent acoustics, the church regularly hosts concerts, especially organ recitals. Jahresprogramm - Engemer Musikforum
