A stylish day bar in a contemporary art museum for coffee, snacks, and the after-show drink: The Lucy Bar in Belvedere 21 is all that and is the perfect hang-out after a stroll through the sculpture garden or three levels of art. The bar fits perfectly into the lobby of the famed Austrian pavilion of the Expo 1958 in Brussels, so much so that you might think it was always there. Instead, Gregor Eichinger, Vienna's local hero architect for delicate coffeehouse and restaurant settings, designed this artsy interior and the lampshades are by Austrian designers. The lounge chairs are original designs of Karl Schwanzer, the groundbreaking Austrian architect that designed the pavilion.
Catering company DON dishes exquisite bar food, hearty Austrian dishes, and casual drinks. At any of the many events the creative scene of Vienna meets after a movie, talk, or a showing at the museum to meet at Lucy Bar. Come spring it will re-open its outdoor garden overlooking art and the green lung Schweizergarten. It is a perfect artsy escape even for busy travelers or office people in nearby Quartier Belvedere. I love to go there for lunch breaks or a coffee for a quick meeting with friends or clients.
