Upon entering Matchstick Coffee your senses are immediately enthralled with the smells of freshly baked croissants, the sight of beautiful rustic woodwork, and the subtle aroma of coffee beans roasting. Matchstick Coffee is one of Vancouver's premier roasters and certainly one of my favorite hangouts on a Sunday afternoon.
The coffee is smooth and fresh, which makes sense since it is roasted only steps from where it is served. Their baked goods are absolutely incredible - it is nearly impossible to go to Matchstick and not get an Earl Grey Muffin or a rich, buttery croissant. Pictured above is my absolute favorite snack - the Tartine bread with walnut butter and jam.
One of my favorite "features" of Matchstick is the long table. It makes for a casual and social atmosphere where you can settle in with your coffee and start a conversation with one of the locals. As I write this article I can't help but reflect on the words of the great philosopher Anon Y Mous - A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent.
