Can't afford the flight to Hawaii? Not to worry - The Shameful Tiki Room in downtown Toronto will provide you with an evening getaway complete with Polynesian-inspired food and an overwhelming list of tiki drinks - no jetlag required!
The exterior is unassuming, but once you push back the velvet curtains you will enter into an oasis. The decor is very impressive and the staff dressed in Hawaiian shirts is the cherry on top. The menu has a lot of great options, all very affordable. The last time I went I got the PuPu Platter which lets you try all six appetizers - the teriyaki broccoli, coconut shrimp and crab rangoon wontons were all winners for me. This platter goes for $30, and was the perfect amount for two people. Their Hawaiian fries are also a must-have.
Shameful Tiki has an extensive cocktail list but are known for their bowls. Yes, that's right. A bowl of cocktails. The Mystery Bowl is fairly priced at $23 and is perfect for sharing between two, they also offer VooDoo, Volcano and Treasure Chest bowls - each increasing in size and price up to $100. The best part of ordering a bowl is the show that goes along with it. For some orders a large gong will be rung, others will trigger red lights and dry ice to pour out from over the bar.
Although a night out here can get a bit pricey, it's a fun experience and definitely one of the BEST themed bars in the city.
