Did you know, that an ancient Greek physician name Aegimus, wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes? (πλακουντοποιικόν σύγγραμμα—plakountopoiikon suggramma) True story! Wrote it around 5 BC! Although the exact preparation of cheesecakes has changed throughout the ages, the fact is we can honestly call this sweet treat a true classic.
As locals, we realise some restaurants or cafes are known for some things and not for others. Hence I will say this, Carole's does cheesecakes very well, with a solid selection albeit a finicky website. So, let's keep it to desserts.
Granted, finding this spot can be a bit tricky to first timers as it is located below street level but it should be easier if you keep an eye out for it. Come with a friend, a small group of friends (>4) or a date, perhaps at the beginning of your adventure or at the end of the night as you look for a place to wind down with a dessert.
Which cheesecake you ask? Well, that is quite the mission if you choose to accept it, as there are always plenty of choices. The night I was there they had 18 cakes to choose from, however... with many being rotated weekly as new flavours are brought in. From lime, cherry, tiramisu, strawberry, chocolate, Philly style, rocky road, walnut, to triple chocolate for you coco-junkies out there, there should always be something to match everyone's tastes.
FYI: Website is up again, however some links did not quite work.
