The Músico Peydró Street, more popularly known as Calle de las Cestas (Basket Street), is situated in the heart of Valencia. It runs between Calle Padilla and Calle de las Calabazas, very close to the Central Market and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and owes its name to the fact that in the 19th century, it concentrated most of the local establishments dedicated to the traditional art of basket weaving.
Unfortunately, there are currently only 2 stores that continue with the artisanal manufacture of objects, mainly made of wicker and wood too, one of them being a business with more than 150 years of history: El Globo basketry. This family establishment has all types of wooden and wicker objects for sale: chairs, wicker baskets, wooden toys and dolls, bags, hats, home accessories or esparto grass items, among many others. What I like most about this type of item is that not only is an ancestral tradition preserved, but also, by purchasing one of them, the artisanal work done with effort and dedication is valued. Buying one of these objects will be really worth it, and a nice souvenir from Valencia.
