Who would have thought that this building that used to serve as a naval prison would turn into an art cluster a hundred years later with modern cafes, designers shops and exhibition spaces? This round, renovated 3-storey building is right next to the entrance of New Holland Island. Every store has its own style. My personal favorite is the third floor: it looks like an old Berlin subway station (pictured) and I happen to be a big Berlin fan.
The first floor is for cafes and restaurants. There is a wide choice of cuisines. Starting from the second location of my favourite pizza (Camorra Pizza) and carrying on with a popular Saint Petersburg place with Israeli cuisine - Bekitzer. If you pay a visit to Bekitzer, you definitely should try shakshuka - it is a Middle-Eastern egg dish with vegetables that is so unusual and tasty it can become your breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The second and third floors are exhibition spaces and designers shops and you can even find the boxing club Johnny D. You should visit the bookshop ‘Garage’, it belongs to famous modern art exhibition center in Moscow with same name. You can find really cool books and souvenirs there.
This building holds a lot of history. And that's what I love about Saint Petersburg as well. I am a fan of how modern and new spots find their place in old buildings filled with history and Bottle is a great example of this successful cooperation.
