If you are strolling through the area of Delfshaven and craving something sweet, you have to try the baklava at Al-Malek Sweets.
If you do not know what baklava is, it is a type of layered dessert made of filo pastry. Sometimes it is made with different nuts, sometimes with sweet cheese, and all its variants are super delicious!
The origin of baklava dates back to 800 BC. It is mostly associated with the Middle East, Turkey, and Greece. This particular place is a Syrian bakery.
When I first went into Al Malek Sweets, I was surprised by the mountains (literally) of pastries gathered in this little nook of a shop. There are many things to choose from: different shapes, colours, flavours and tastes. In the end, I ended up getting one of each, and I definitely was not disappointed with the explosion of flavour in my mouth; absolutely delicious!
