A quick disclaimer: this place is neither the highest nor the most spectacular viewpoint. The views from Vorobievy Hills or Zaryadie are more stunning, more Instagram-worthy.
There are however a few things that make this place unique. First, it’s situated next to the RAS (Russian Academy of Sciences) headquarters. The truly impressive building is nicknamed Golden Brains — because of the huge golden crown on top resembling, well, brains. It’s said that the golden structure covers some boring technical systems. I have a theory that it’s some kind of steampunk mind control device which proved useless but looked so stunning that it was left for decoration purposes. Anyway, I digress. The building complex is interesting in itself.
Then there’s the view, a less popular angle on lots of Moscow’s landmarks: the MSU building, the Moscow City quarter, Ostankino TV tower and so on. The place feels cosy somehow and it’s much less famous than some other viewpoints, so you’ll have the chance to properly enjoy it — and maybe even have it all for yourself. Plus, if you are in the mood for a leisurely stroll, a bike ride or a picnic, Neskuchny Garden (the less crowded part of Gorky Park) is like 3 minutes away.
