When I got to the Aquarium Garden for the first time, I travelled back in time, to the past, to the years of the Soviet Union and the pre-revolutionary era. At once I dreamed that I was a lady of the 19th century entering the garden and the summer theatre in the hand of a gentleman! Nowadays, at the entrance, you can find theatre playbills and incredibly beautiful fountains and arches are situated in the depths of the garden. The atmosphere is full of smells of theater and art!
Aquarium Garden has a rich cultural history. Initially, its land was used as kitchen gardens, but then it was turned into a cultural garden, a zone for rest and summer theaters and performances. It was the favorite vacation spot of the Moscow intellectuals. The Soviet Union years also connected the garden with theater and recreation.
Nowadays it is just a small green oasis near with two large well-known theaters. But why does the garden have such a name? The truth is that there used to be a real aquarium in one of pavilions!
