To be honest, I could never quite grasp the extreme popularity of sushi and burger in Norway. It does not really feel like the right food for a country where the low temperatures, snowstorms and bitter winds are at home – well, most of the year at least. In that kind of weather, I always crave a hearty soup, and thanks to the ramen mania that has spread across Europe in recent years, also Oslo has some good liquid lunch options.
Koie is so far the tastiest ramen place I discovered in the city. Portions are big and steaming hot broth packed with flavour. You can choose some small starters and side dishes but the menu is short and very straightforward – focused on ramen, of course.
You can find Koie at two locations – one in Torggata (the mother) and the newly opened one in Bjørvika (the daughter), so a hot bowl of soup is never far away. Cold outside but warm in your belly – ah, what can feel better that that?
