Madrid is lucky to have such a fantastic wine shop. Vino y Compañía on the popular Plaza de Olavide is the place to discover the dazzling variety and quality of wine on offer in Spain. They have more than 2,000 wines, cavas and liqueurs to choose from. Need some help? The expert staff here will make recommendations to suit your preferences and wallet.
Come with an open mind - I love Rioja; it’s a majestic wine and worthy of its fame around the world. However, there is so much more than just Rioja in Spain! Red wines of note include Ribera del Duero, where viticulture arrived in the 12th century with Benedictine monks from Burgundy. Priorat is another wonderful red that is gaining in popularity recently, and I really enjoy this characterful wine from Catalonia.
If it’s white wine that rocks your boat, try a Txakoli from the Basque Country- this unusual wine is slightly sparkling and dry as a bone. Galician whites such as the mineral-y Albariño or fruitier Ribeiro are great, as is the ubiquitous Rueda del Duero from the Castilla y León region - full-bodied and crisp.
