From the outside, the City museum looks like a typical new modern museum building, but when you are inside the museum, you will quickly recognize that the architecture is very particular. During your tour, you can walk through 4 typical old city houses that are incorporated into the museum.
In the basement, the museum is built inside the rock. The building comprises 6 different levels and a nice terrace offers a wonderful view on the Grund (lower part of the city). But my favorite part of the museum is the huge stunning hydraulic elevator (18 m2), you have to step in! It’s operated by only one single piston! This will especially fascinate the engineers amongst you.
Every time I go to the museum I have the impression I'm discovering new parts of the city. The city museum offers below its permanent exhibition regular new temporary exhibitions which are always super interesting and you will see how the city became the city of today.
Free entrance every Thursday from 18:00 - 20:00.
