The Greystone Mansion is a luxurious, mysterious Beverly Hills location. I like to come here to pretend I'm rich. It's home to many film shoots and a serious political scandal. It's a place where the public can stroll like the rich and famous without paying an HOA.
The Greystone Mansion is a Tudor Revival home with English gardens built in 1928 by Architect Gordon Kaufmann. The 55-room, 46,000 sq ft (4,300m2), sits on 18.3 acres of land, and cost over $3 million to build. It is ornate inside and out! Films here include Spiderman (1, 2, & 3), Austin Powers Goldmember, The Prestige, and many more.
More fascinating than the lavishness of the estate is the murder/suicide that happened inside. The home was built by oil baron E.L. Doheny as a gift to his only living son Ned. Ned moved in with his wife and five children (and allegedly his male secretary lover) who shot and killed him inside the home. Wealth, pressure, and The Teapot Dome Scandal.
Today, Greystone Mansion & Gardens (The Doheny Estate) is owned and operated by the City of Beverly Hills. The grounds are a park that's open daily, and the mansion interior is open for tours, special events, and concerts. Greystone is an elegant Beverly Hills estate that's free and open to the public.
