"Grog" is a small cozy pub located in the Alvalade quarter (check the Bairro de Alvalade article), just near the Santo António Square, but still hidden behind the high story buildings. Fortunately, it still remains a secret place only for neighbors and it could be easily missed. The decor brings back the 70s English style bar, with black walls and red vinyl seats. Grog is cozy, warm and perfect for a cold day, but it could be packed with football fans if a game's on the TV.
Famous for its milkshakes, there are some flavors to try: chocolate, vanilla and my favorite: Gooseberries. The toasts are also really good, made from traditional bread and with rustic and delicious ingredients. My favorite toast is the one with cheese and pickles - I always eat the same every time I go there.
Usually, Grog is a quiet and casual place, but after Sporting Football Club home matches, it can be hard to find a place to sit because it gets really crowded. They are also open until late (02:00), and since there aren't many choices in the surrounding areas of places open that late, you must get there first for the best seats.
