Nowa Huta, a pearl of socialist realism, is one of Krakow’s most fascinating areas to discover. It takes a little effort to get there, but trust me, it’s worth the fuss! Once you’re there, make sure to pay a visit to Cafe NOWA Księgarnia, as it is not only a cafe and a bookshop but also a tourist information center!
Some of you may be familiar with Klub Kombinator - a famous pub and a staple of Nowa Huta’s social life. NOWA is yet another brilliant creation of Kombinator’s founders, known for their work towards preserving Huta’s cultural heritage. Who better to ask about the area and guide you through this socrealistic labyrinth?
NOWA prides itself on its collection of books dedicated to Nowa Huta. You can also find posters, postcards, and calendars showcasing works of artists of the area. If you are a parent, you will love the children’s books selection, which is truly impressive. NOWA frequently organizes various events for the kids and adults - anything from meetings with authors to exhibitions, workshops, and even caroling sessions during Christmas time!
In addition, NOWA absolutely delivers on the café front. Coffee and tea are of the best quality, and the cakes are to die for. There’s something to grab for breakfast too!
On top of that, the interior is super cozy, with shelves filled with books all around, and a neon behind the counter - in true Nowa Huta style! I promise you will not want to leave!
