For grocery shopping in the city center my favorite option is Stockmann Herkku. The location is perfect and one could say Stockmann is the center of Helsinki city center. Stockmann Herkku is the grocery store hidden in the basement floor of Stockmann department store which is also a must visit if you're interested in shopping, like my fellow spotter Antti wrote as well.
Location is one thing but the most important criteria for me choosing to shop at Stockmann Herkku is the great selection of fresh, quality and local products, not to mention their amazing service. If you'd like to get some local treats or flavors such as smoked salmon, local cheese or yogurt from Helsingin Meijeriliike dairy or ice cream made by three guys of 3 Kaverin Jäätelö for example, you don't need to hesitate asking for help to find these local goodies.
Stockmann Herkku is for easy and convenient grocery shopping. They've even got their own bakery products available as well as fresh fish and meat.
