Pompier Albertinkatu is an extremely popular lunch spot. The decor is not fashionable, the music played is not mainstream and the food is not the most trendy. So how come Pompier Albertinkatu is one of my favorites and also one of the most popular lunch restaurants in Helsinki?
Pompier Albertinkatu is located in a volunteer fire department of Helsinki. The fire department's history goes back 150 years and Pompier Albertinkatu has preserved the feeling of the long history and especially the 1950s. The music played and the decor resonates the same era. The atmosphere inside is very Finnish with portraits of the presidents on the walls.
The food is honest home cooking with a refreshing twist. The twist might be as small as some out of the ordinary garnish, spice or side dish which makes the combination fresh and delicious. The price is reasonable between € 10 - € 15, which includes a buffet of cold and hot items. Coffee or tea is included and served from cute metallic cups. The food never fails. If you want to avoid rush hour I recommend to go right after the opening at 11:00 or late after 13:00.
