The abandoned psychiatric hospital of Lapinlahti has become a very interesting spot known as Lapinlahden Lähde. The milieu alone is fantastic, the old hospital building is beautiful and it is surrounded by a nice park by the water. There is even a nice little beach for swimming, though unfortunately it is already a bit too cold for that, at least for me.
But the cafe Kahvila Lähde is the heart of the whole complex! The beautifully decorated cafe serves soup lunch from Monday to Friday, and has a good, daily changing selection of pastries to have with a nice cup of coffee. Home baked, fresh cinnamon buns are served every day. Not only the decoration but the whole milieu is very beautiful and intriguing.
Lapinlahden Lähde is a cultural space with all kinds of interesting stuff and events, for example an art gallery, a flea market, a boutique and a sauna and different kinds of seminars, courses and cultural events, so there's a lot of things to see and to do before and after enjoying the treats of Kahvila Lähde!
As the Lapinlahti hospital was empty for a long time, and its destiny looked quite pessimistic at some point, I am really happy that it is now used for such a good purpose and is open for anyone interested.
