Well, if you have the opportunity to take any boat or stand up paddle board, you definitely have to go to our lake in the middle of town. And there are plenty of rentals all around the lake. Why? Amazing views towards all parts of the city center!
I personally get totally chilled after one or two hours of sailing. There is no better way to calm down from the hustle of a city than to jump on a boat and enjoy the different scenery. The nice water fountain in the middle of the little lake at the shopping district will give you some refreshing drops of water if you are in the right corner and the wind is strong enough, and you can hang out like the locals who use the Alster Lake for sailing and rowing.
There are many opportunities to get on it. Take a stroll from the water's edge and you'll find Alster ferries which cross on a fixed schedule, or you can take a rowing or sailing boat. Or a stand up paddle board. But be aware if you are sailing: the wind is quite strong sometimes and gusts of wind are common. My recommendation: take a lesson to become a sailor at Piper Segelschule. They are really nice over there and I love to be with them and their boats. Sometimes my friend Martin is giving instructions as a sailing teacher, which reminds me that I go sailing with him since the 90s.
