Unfortunately I am not very musical. This doesn’t change the fact that I admire everyone who knows how to play an instrument. Therefore, I just love the Hochschule für Musik und Theater - the university of music and theater. Whenever I’m in need of some culture and in the mood for listening to classical music, I check up their website for their monthly program. Almost every day they have wonderful classical concerts, either students’ class presentations or exams (like a bachelor or master exam concert). The musicians are just incredible and the historic building itself, which was built in the late 19th century, and the surrounding wealthy area right next to the Alster are worth a visit as well.
Apart from the piano or the violin, oftentimes you can also listen to more uncommon concerts like harp, organ or transverse flute and they also have a symphonic orchestra. And the best part – most of the concerts are for free! So in case you love listening to classical music by great composers, interpreted by excellent artists, but can’t spend too much money for concert tickets, this is the place for you to go.
If you need some contrast program after the concert, I suggest you visit an authentic English pub nearby (check the KEMP's English Pub article).
