Tucked into the buzzing Schanzenstraße, Café M.I.P. is a no-frills, all-flavor kind of place. Run by Portuguese women, it’s where you’ll find sweet pastries stacked high like flaky Pastéis de Nata, creamy vanilla-filled cakes, and toast dripping in chocolate glaze.
But what truly stands out? The salty croissants. A German thing, apparently, filled with tomato-mozzarella, Serrano ham, or salami, and wildly popular here. Or at least I love them so much!
Freshly squeezed orange juice, strong Galão, and prices that make you wonder if you’ve traveled back in time. Everything is simple, delicious, and refreshingly affordable. Just bring cash, because card payments don’t exist here.
Right in the heart of Hamburg’s alternative Schanze, where bars overflow and the streets are alive with people, Café MIP is a perfect stop before diving into the neighborhood’s energy. Not far from the Rote Flora, it fits seamlessly into its surroundings: unpretentious, welcoming, and full of character.
