When I was a small boy I loved cakes and I loved cake shops. Way back then our town had several family bakers with homemade bread, pies and most importantly, cakes. These establishments slowly disappeared until now, when a resurgence of Artisan bakeries is happening and I want my cake AND eat it too!
Situated in Mansfield Square, Partick in the West End of the city is 'My Home Bakery' As well as their cakes, pies and pastries they also serve teas and coffees and you can sit in (only 2 small tables) and enjoy a slice of heavenly cake with your drink.
Everything is made on the premises by the very friendly and chatty staff. They sell delicious savoury pastries like Italian bolognese and cheese pies or pork and black pudding sausage rolls, as well as freshly made sandwiches using their own homemade bread, (including flowerpot baked whole meal!) Then there are the cakes! You can choose the chocolate and hazelnut brownies, the lemon and cranberry iced sponge, the chocolate or mango volcano cakes or blueberry financier cakes. The list goes on and there is always something new and mouthwatering each time I go there.
I now go to this little piece of cakey heaven when walking the dog for an indulgent bite to eat. It's definitely worth a look for a sit down, cup of coffee and a wee sweet delight.
My Home Bakery has they made it into The List magazine's Eating and Drinking Guide!
