Call me basic but one of my favourite dishes is the humble toastie. Buttery bread with melted cheese, what’s not to like? So when I heard that Meltmonger apparently made some of the best toasties in town I knew I had to check it out. I wasn’t disappointed, if anything my expectations were exceeded!
I dropped by their Bruntsfield store located opposite the Bruntsfield Links park. Their cosy, trendy space is a great place to relax, or they also have takeaway options. Choose from their extensive options of fillings. You won’t find your run of the mill ham and cheese toastie here. I went for the Builder’s Toastie, a combination of mature cheddar cheese with fried crispy onion on sourdough bread. It was so delicious and surprisingly filling. The bread was golden and had just the right level of crunch. I couldn’t have asked for a more heart-warming lunch on a cold grey day. Pure comfort food.
