Howth is a peninsula and a fisher village near Dublin, where I usually go using local trains DART in about 30 minutes from Dublin city centre. The major association with Howth is seafood restaurants near the train station, but there is much more to discover - for instance, hiking to Howth Head, a collection of quite rocky hills in the center of the peninsula.
The hiking trail can start right from the train station Howth, there are several maps on the way to be found as well and three main trails available. Once you get away from the busy town with plenty of tourists, go a bit higher up the hills - the views are getting incredible. Last time I went there it was quite cold, windy and rainy - but I still could not help taking photographs non-stop! My runners were soaked and my non-waterproof jacket too - but who cares!
Me and one of my friends even managed to have a small picnic on one of the windy hills in early December and could observe a few seals swimming around the edge of the land and earlier in the year a group of dolphins! Just get a better pair of hiking shoes and if you love walks as much as I do - go ahead with any weather.
