There are many museums in Chisinau city center. However, the National Museum of History is probably the most well known. I believe it is so popular because of its great location, lovely garden and impressive architecture.
My favorite part about it is the wooden swing in front of the museum. However, the collections inside and the interior itself are also very nice to visit.
The edifice has hosted the museum since 1987, originally the Chisinau Boys’ Gymnasia. The most curious fact about the building is that you actually see a modern edifice nowadays, although it looks like an 18th century construction. The earthquake from 1977 destroyed the original building, and the works for the new one were completed in 1987. For the new construction, only the exterior in eclectic style was retained and the elements of assembly hall.
The museum also hosts many temporary guest exhibitions, that are quite popular among locals.
Lucky for us, museums in Moldova, Chisinau included, are very affordable, and it would be a great idea for you to also take a guided tour.
