Several years ago, most underground passages in Chisinau would scare its citizens with their total darkness, bad smell, and tasteless graffiti. In 2019, Chisinau was visited by a famous British traveler who made a video about the Moldovan capital showing some shocking footage about its underground passages to the whole world. The video became viral on YouTube, having more than 4 million views at the time of writing.
As a result, the local municipality started the reparation process and nowadays, the passages look very nice. There are about 10 of those in Chisinau that are worth your attention. Some of them are modern, some of them still beautiful soviet mosaics.
The two most impressive ones are located next to the Academy of Science and State University of Creanga, both on Central Boulevard.
People are often just passing by without paying the proper attention to the interesting soviet infrastructure of the 1970s.
Several of those are in the area called Botanica. If you have seen enough of the historical center, Botanica region is a very good area to visit.
