Goethe-Institut is a not-for-profit cultural center built in 1958 in Cairo by the German embassy. It's located in the Dokki area and there are four other branches in the Downtown area, in 6th of October City, Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule and New Cairo. It has many departments that serve different purposes. There are language departmenst, a library/information section, events hall & courses rooms.
Goethe-Institut supports a variety of cultural events and events to represent German culture abroad and to promote international cultural exchange through the language activities they offer, their language courses and a program of exams, workshops and seminars for teachers of German as a foreign language.
The information center at the Goethe-Institut in Cairo provides information on important aspects of cultural, social and political life in Germany. They also offer books and teaching aids to anyone who's interested in Germany and wants to study or teach German.
Regarding the cultural events in Goethe, there's an organized monthly schedule that has different kinds of events like movies, book discussions, music/art events, feature films, documentaries and more. The working hours are different for each department, so visit their website to find out the exact times.
What makes Goethe a special spot for me is that they have short & feature-length films and documentaries related to the Middle East, Egypt especially, and sometimes there is a discussion after the movie.
It will be interesting for travelers to know more about Egypt from its cinema shows.
