To get away (at least metaphorically) from the blues of a rainy Sunday in Brussels, my favorite plan has become the following: a cardio session at the gym and brunch. So after a tiring and sweaty session at my favorite sports club, together with some friends, we picked Batch for our brunch destination.
Although it is not possible to make any reservations in advance, armed with hunger and desire to try one of the new hot spots in town, we went to this new trendy café and… here it was a table for three, which seemed just to be there waiting for us. As we sit and go through the small but tasty menu, we cannot seem to stop noticing just how nice and cozy this place looks. A simple but still refined style characterizes this café, which at night becomes a warm wine bar with small plates to share.
I tried the croque-monsieur comté, with Brasvar ham and ketchup and enjoyed every single bite of this crunchy sourdough bread. Different options are available, including toast with scrambled eggs and salmon or pastries including pain au chocolate. Since it was Sunday afternoon, and the sadness from Monday syndrome was slowly creeping in, I also indulged in a warm and soft chocolate cookie. If you come up with a better Sunday plan, please let me know. In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to having dinner at Batch to try out their evening menu.
