When I first walked into Aeronaut Brewing Company, it seemed like I had stepped inside a giant no frills living room. Such living rooms have been a permanent fixture in my life in another part of the world (India), and so I comfortably slipped in. There was a band playing on one side of the room, the bar with brews on tap was buzzing, people sat with trays of beer and I noticed board games on most of the tables. As we made ourselves comfortable, I noticed more than one birthday celebration in progress and many people had brought their own food too. This was the good life.
Aeronaut is among the new wave of craft breweries that have emerged in the Boston area. Located in Somerville, amidst a bunch of hip new openings, this brewery will put you at ease quickly. Like others, we chose to order a flight of beer from their draft offerings for the day and my favorite was a punchy IPA called "A year with Doctor Nandu". While the brewery doesn't offer a food menu, it does team up with small creative caterers who hold pop-ups inside the brewery. We were lucky to taste delicious arepas on our first visit and pillowy muffins on our second. The brewery is also big on events and I can't wait to revisit, and feel right at home!
