Ζappeio is worth a visit by itself and is a famous Athens monument located right next to the Parliament. But who knows about the statues that are spread all over its garden in front of the Zappeio building itself?
There are 23 statues waiting for you to discover and find the story behind them!
One of the most famous is the one of the Greek national hero Georgios Karaiskakis who took part in the revolution of 1821. There are others that are of rich people who became benefactors of Greece, like Konstantinos & Evangelos Zappas, whose names were given to Zappeio Megaro. There is also a statue of Lord Byron.
Of course, there are also a few statues related to Greek mythology. There is one with the goddess Athena and two depicting the satyrs, who were very good friends with the god Dionysus.
By far my dearest ones are those of Eros breaking his own bow (who knows why?!) made by the famous sculptor Georgios Vroutos. He also made the very beautiful statue you can see on the picture above, "Angel", standing one meter tall among the trees.
Εnjoy a walk around these beautiful statues, especially on a sunny day!
