When Matchpoint opened a few years ago it was a bold move; located in an urban no man's land, close to the National Archeological Museum and Victoria Square, this was a neighborhood that didn't feel very safe and welcoming, especially in the night. However, as the nearby Pedion of Areos park was reconstructed, this area started being more popular with the artsy younger crowd. You will find Matchpoint on a quiet pedestrian street, just a few meters away from the intersection of two busy avenues, surrounded by beautiful, neoclassical buildings.
Matchpoint's interior is tastefully decorated, and the music is lovely but my favorite is sitting outside enjoying my drink and watching the world go by. In the summer, old Hollywood movies are projected on the building across from the bar, it is quite a sight. Now, you know where to get a drink or a coffee after visiting the museum and grabbing a bite to eat (check out the Plateia Vathis falafel article). Matchpoint opens in the morning and stays open late making it ideal to start or end your days and nights in Athens.
