A few things have not been said about the souvlaki wrap (tylichto in Greek) of Lefteris o Politis. For 71 years (starting in 1951), this place has been offering Athenians its amazing wrapped souvlaki. Lefteris o Politis has been a constant value in the Omonia Square area since it was the city's heart, during its absolute degradation and devaluation, and now that the area is taking its first steps toward a better future. Class divisions have no place in Lefteris. Workers, artists, politicians, and immigrants eat the famous souvlaki side by side. There is a story according to which a rich industrialist used to send his son, who was studying abroad, dozens of souvlaki wraps from Lefteris.
Initially, the wrap was made with lamb, and from the 1980s on, with an amazing beef burger (bifteki in Greek). A well-cooked pita, a juicy burger, tomato, and onion are a unique and tasty combination. It is the epitome of delicious simplicity. Recently, Lefteris opened a second store on Romvis Street, no. 18 (Mon - Fri 12:00 - 23:00, Sat 12:00 - 19:00), ready to conquer the younger generations who frequent the area near Ermou Street.
