Badeschiff Vienna

Diversity, inclusion and variety

""Badeschiff" is a restaurant/bar in the canal in Vienna and it's actively investing in diversity. Refugees cook there & they employ disabled people..."

Badeschiff is a food/drinks/sports spot in the canal I warmly recommend you visit when in Vienna. Why should you check out the Donaukanal area - a centrally located hotspot at the waterfront? The Viennese have a close relationship with water, be it because Austria not having any sea access or because it is the main ingredient in beer and wine... Anyhow, we are appreciative of the delicious tap water coming directly from the Alps. We are also grateful for the Danube running through our beautiful city, making it even more awesome.

The boss of Badeschiff and Adria Glasshouse (closes in September!) actively invests in diversity. I know two of the seven 'special gastronomics' with disabilities who work there (getting actual pay), they love their job.

Even if you do not care about social responsibility, you might find the pool in the canal (ice swimming!), the lovely sun deck (go curling! kid-friendly ;), or the lower deck bowling alley terrific. If that doesn't attract you yet, inside you'll find a mix of inclusive literature coffee and a cozy restaurant with an empowering food concept. "Speisen ohne Grenzen" gives refugees the space to introduce their national dishes, so the daily changing menu offers cuisine from Afghanistan, Somalia, or Syria.

In 2019 the ship got an artsy wrap. The pink camouflage net serves as a tie that links the inclusive "island" with the mainland and its inhabitants. A belt that keeps everything in place and its community together in a loose way that welcomes new visitors.
