Until the '70s the area of Faliro Bay was the ultimate destination for people to be next to the sea. For the Olympic Games of 2004 this seaside district of Athens was revived. Right here there is a big open space called Plateia Nerou (Πλατεία Νερού).
At Plateia Nerou you can walk, cycle, run, relax, go fishing or just watch the fishermen there. The area is also used for concerts or festivals like "Ejekt festival" or "Heavy by the Sea festival" which are organized every year. So if you are lucky you can also enjoy the music by the sea or set up your music day or night with your friends. In case you are more of an athletic type, Plateia Nerou also has many sports clubs like a sailing club where you can try to conquer the sea!
For me this place is connected with numerous music events, walks and cycles but also with that unique moment that the sun dives into the sea and the full moon rises. It's really magical, especially if you take a bottle of wine and good company with you and find a comfortable place to spend a few hours just to feel the sea breeze and relax. The place is open the whole day and night and easily reachable by public transport or car, so the only thing you have to do is pick the best time for you.
