Incredible sandwiches, impossible magazines. That's how Magasand describes itself. Located very close to Puerta Alcalá and Retiro I discovered it when I was looking for delicious sandwiches to bring to a picnic at Retiro Park.
Because in Magasand you can ask for a picnic equipment (a very cute picnic basket with red square tablecloth, cups, a wine opener and special wood cutlery), to take it away you just have to leave a returnable deposit of € 50.
The food is always fresh (in fact you can see the sandwich ingredients at the counter) and they offer a big range of healthy possibilities: not just sandwiches and salads, also soups and creams, smoothies and juices, and amazing breakfasts!
The waiters are really nice and they will help you if you can't decide between the 15 sandwiches (with very different kinds of bread) and 10 salads available. My perfect choice: "Nomanches pollo" (chipotle chicken, havarti cheese, avocado, tomato, spinach flatbread) and "Rucurola" (pear or grapes with arugula, turkey breast, parmesan and balsamic salad).
But, what do they mean by impossible magazines? That's because they have a great selection of art, architecture, fashion and design magazines that you can read in there, but also buy to bring home with you.
For me Magasand became perfect for those sunny days when I am in a "picnic" mood, the sandwiches are really delicious and Retiro is only a 5 minutes walk!
