Godiva is one of those treasure trove type shops where you never quite know what you're going to come across. They have a mix of vintage and independent fashion, with a focus on limited editions or one-off and up-cycled pieces.
The shop is split into two. The front section displays items by a range of independent fashion designers where the stories behind the clothes are often as interesting as the clothes and accessories themselves. The back of the shop is devoted to vintage finds – a treasure trove of fashion from the past.
A word of warning though, the limited or one-off nature of the finds in Godiva means it's not the sort of place to browse and then come back later to buy. More often than not the clothes don't hang around too long. I've been burned one too many times by taking too long to decide to buy a top or dress only to come back and find it's gone.
I especially like the up-cycled items like the Paperthinks wallets and bags – fun, bright and made with 100% recycled leather. However, more recently I've been eyeing the city map scarves from One Hundred Stars. A perfect gift for any city lover!
To find something truly distinctive this is the place to visit in Edinburgh.
